Our service advisors are not paid on commission (ask your dealership advisor next time – you may be surprised). We want you to come to us for all your service needs, so we will never charge you for things you do not need. We understand that the mechanical world is alien to most people, so we will explain everything in plain English.

Below you will find a selection tool. By entering the year, make, and model of your vehicle, you will access the factory maintenance schedule for your vehicle. This is a good indication of what is recommended for your vehicle. If you have any questions about these services, we would love to take the time and explain them to you, in plain English.

BMW.
The BMW Maintenance System has been devised with the following objectives: maximize vehicle safety, reliability, and minimize breakdowns resulting from wear, at minimum cost. The Service Interval Light system will indicate when you are due for service based on your driving habits.

Service Interval Light System
The Service Indicator consists of five green, one yellow, and one red light and the inscriptions: "Oil service" and "Inspection" located on your instrument panel. Whenever the ignition is switched on, up to five green lights will light up, then depending on vehicle use and driving style the green lights will systematically turn off one by one. As you approach the last green light, this is an indication that the next service is almost due and helps you to make any necessary arrangements on a timely basis. When the last green light turns off, a yellow light appears with one of the inscriptions (Oil Service or Inspection). This indicates that your next maintenance service is due immediately. If you continue to delay maintenance service, the yellow light and red light appear together with one of the inscriptions (oil service or inspection). In the interest of road safety and reliability you should avoid driving your BMW and have the essential work performed without any further delay.

Service Interval Packages.
At The Import Mechanics, we take great care in following and exceeding BMW's maintenance guidelines in order to maintain superior handling, ultimate performance, and most importantly safety and reliability for you and your BMW. However the real value of our service is our expertise and familiarity with the problem areas, common failure points, and the practical service needs of your particular BMW model.

Our Enhanced Maintenance Service exceeds BMW's factory warranty requirements; the additional services may be included in your service depending upon the model year of your BMW. Prior to 1996, BMW included additional services, however due to introduction of the scheduled maintenance service BMW lowered their maintenance guidelines. This upgrade in service will extend your BMW's longevity and performance.

The newly formed scheduled maintenance was included in the cost of the vehicle.

Our Standard Maintenance Service follows BMW's factory guidelines step by step and meets all BMW factory warranty requirements. Please refer to your owner's manual for a detailed description of these services for your model year. The BMW service intervals consist of three main service groups: Also, there are additional services (excluded from the main service groups) that are required annually:
  • Brake fluid flush.
  • Coolant fluid flush.
  • Oxygen sensor replacement.
  • Timing belt (M20 engine) should be replaced every 4 years or 50k miles, whichever occurs first.

Oil.   Schedule Service >
Recommended oil change interval every 3,000 miles for conventional oil engines and every 5,000 miles for synthetic oil engines. Mini vehicles late 1999 and up are synthetic oil and previous models operate with conventional oil. Mini oil change intervals according to the service indicator on the dash are approximately 15,000 miles between oil changes. We recommend more frequent oil changes to maintain engine performance and durability over the life of your vehicle. It may also be a benefit to you to come in every 6 months to change the oil and filter, check hoses, brakes, fluids and a visual inspection of the vehicle. Regular maintenance may save you money over the lifetime of your vehicle, and possibly save you from a future breakdown.

Inspection I.   Schedule Service >
Service indicator light on your instrument cluster will let you know when your full service maintenance inspection is due, when all the green lights have gone out and the yellow or red indicator light has appeared.

Inspection II.   Schedule Service >
Service indicator light on your instrument cluster will let you know when your full service maintenance inspection is due, when all the green lights have gone out and the yellow or red indicator light has appeared.

Coolant.   Schedule Service >
Coolant System Flush - Coolant keeps your engine within normal operating temperature, prevents freezing in winter and maintains the internal surfaces of your engine by preventing corrosion and protecting hoses, gaskets, seals, o-rings, radiator and lubricating the water pump. New coolant protects and lubricates these components, as coolant ages (2-3yrs) the pH level drops and it can no longer provide this level of protection. Coolant is not subjected to the same extreme conditions as engine oil and therefore does not need to be changed as frequent. We recommend changing engine coolant every 2-3 years to keep the cooling system operating efficiently.

Brake.   Schedule Service >
Brake System Flush - Brake fluid protects the brake system, lines, calipers, hoses, pistons and seals. It is designed to absorb water to protect the brake system from corrosion. Moisture lowers the boiling point of the fluid and also can cause corrosion in the system if not replaced. Brake fluid should be replaced a minimum of every 2 years as recommended by Mini factory service.

Transmission.   Schedule Service >
Most Mini transmissions are "lifetime fluid" according to Mini factory service guidelines. To maintain the long term service of your transmission, we believe that it may be a good investment to change the transmission fluid and filter every 60,000 miles.

Steering.   Schedule Service >
Mini has no documented scheduled interval for replacing or flushing power steering fluid. Just like other operating fluids in the vehicle, as it ages the power steering fluid is less effective in providing lubrication and protection for the power steering pump, gear, hoses, and seals. A power steering fluid change is recommended at 30,000 mile intervals.

Fuel.   Schedule Service >
Fuel System Service - Fuel system components can build up deposits over time which can have a negative impact on the efficiency and performance of your engine. Our fuel system cleaning agent removes deposits on injectors, valves, and combustion chamber surfaces. We recommend a fuel system service every 30,000 miles.
